Bio: Caitlin Patler’s research focuses on migration, inequality, and socio-legal studies. She is currently conducting mixed-methods research studies on: 1) immigration detention, deportation, and the intersections of immigration and criminal law, 2) the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and 3) legally vulnerable workers. Dr. Patler has received multiple grants and awards for her research, including awards from the National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation, National Science Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, Sociological Initiatives Foundation, and the American Sociological Association. Her work has been published in Social Problems, Social Science & Medicine, International Migration Review, and many other journals and other outlets. Dr. Patler’s research is informed by over 17 years of work with immigrants’ rights organizations focused on immigration detention, access to education for undocumented youth, and low-wage labor markets.
