Daniela Arreola is a Research Analyst with the Berkeley Interdisciplinary Migration Initiative (BIMI) and a student at UC Berkeley, pursuing a degree in Public Health. She is passionate about social determinants of health, health equity, community engagement, and environmental health. Daniela’s interest in immigration research stems from her familial background of Mexican and Peruvian immigrants, as well as a strong academic background in how institutions, policy decisions, and racism shape health outcomes. At BIMI, Daniela hopes to deepen her knowledge of community health interventions that promote flourishing for immigrant and undocumented communities.
At UC Berkeley, she has been involved in research teaching high schoolers in San Francisco research methods and expanded the reach of their research findings, interviewed pregnant farm working women in the Central Valley about their exposure to pesticides, enhanced the online presence of a nonprofit addressing urban American Indian health disparities in California, and aided in food recovery and school based food distributions in West Oakland. Outside of research, she works as a kayaking instructor at the Berkeley Marina and is an active member of the external team and performance team at Salsa at Cal.
