Summer Institute in Migration Research Methods

Between 2019 and 2024, the Summer Institute in Migration Research Methods (SIMRM) tackled important migration-related questions from distinct methodological perspectives each year. SIMRM invited graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career faculty to participate in methods training while engaging in broader career-driven conversations. We discussed important topics related to building a successful career as a migration researcher through professionalization panels and shared in-progress research. Hosted by the UC Berkeley Interdisciplinary Migration Initiative, SIMRM was typically hosted at the University of California, Berkeley campus. The Institute was organized and directed by Irene Bloemraad (UCB) and Jennifer Van Hook (Pennsylvania State University).

SIMRM programming ended in 2024. No plans to continue the Institute exist at this time.
